MERIDEN, CT — Construction to replace the Murdock Avenue Bridge over I-91 in Meriden is expected to start next week, according to officials.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation announced this week the start of alternating one-way traffic controlled by a temporary traffic signal on the Murdock Avenue Bridge over I-91 will begin on Thursday, Aug. 27, (with a rain date of Sunday, August 30) at 12 a.m.
In preparation of this, officials said traffic signalization will be installed this week with alternating traffic directed by police and/or flagmen.
"The alternating one-way traffic pattern will allow one lane on the bridge to remain open during the replacement of the bridge which will last for approximately two years," officials wrote in an advisory. "The bridge work will include both day and night work, demolition of bridge decks and abutments, saw cutting, reconstruction, and back-up alarms which can create noise. We will monitor the noise levels as required to ensure compliance as outlined in CTDOT's Standard Specifications ."
