Man Charged In 2 Shootings In Meriden: Police

MERIDEN, CT — A Middletown man has been arrested in connection with two shootings in Meriden earlier this year, according to police.

Police responded to the 200 block of Crown Street on May 5 on the report of shots fired.

Officers found that the building had been struck by gunfire and located more than 40 shell casings in the street in front of the building, according to police.

A month later, on June 15, police responded to the 200 block of Camp Street for another report of shots fired.

Police said officers saw a vehicle that was struck by gunfire and located several shell casings in the immediate vicinity.

"At the time, there was very little information available pointing to the person responsible for these shootings," police wrote in a news release.

On June 24, Middletown resident Justice Roman was taken into custody by the Waterbury Police Department on an unrelated warrant for his arrest and for on-site firearms charges.

Police said Roman was found to be in possession of a gun that was later tested and found to have produced the shell casings found on Crown Street in Meriden on May 5 and on Camp Street in Meriden on June 24.

"Through an extensive investigative process, it was determined that Roman was responsible for both shootings," police wrote.

Two arrest warrants were obtained for Roman in connection with the incidents.

For the Crown Street incident, police said Roman was charged with criminal attempt at first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, and risk of injury to a minor.

For the Camp Street incident, Roman was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, weapons in a motor vehicle, first-degree criminal mischief, unlawful discharge of a firearm, and reckless endangerment.

Roman, 23, was being held in lieu of bonds totaling $1 million, according to police.
