MERIDEN, CT — Two people have been arrested in connection with the sexual assault of a 10-year-old girl in Meriden, according to police.
Johnny Perez-Mendez, 32, and Genesis Perez-Acevedo, 32, were arrested Aug. 28 in connection with the investigation that began in June, according to police.
Perez-Mendez was charged with first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault, commercial sexual abuse of a minor and risk of injury to child. He was being held in lieu of a $250,000 bond with a court date of Aug. 31.
Perez-Acevedo was charged with risk of injury to a child. She was being held in lieu of a $75,000 bond with a court date of Aug. 31.
"The Meriden Police Department remains committed to protecting children and holding those who prey upon them accountable," police wrote in a news release. "We also want to recognize the incredible courage of the young victim in this case. Finding the strength to use her voice and speak about what happened was an important and powerful step. Her bravery allowed investigators to act, seek accountability, and protect others.
"Every child deserves to feel safe, heard, and protected. The Meriden Police Department will continue standing with victims, supporting families, and work relentlessly to keep offenders away from our children and our community."
