Start your morning at 8:30 a.m. with agricultural products, prepared foods, and artisan handmade items at the popular Meriden Farmer's Market, a weekly summer/fall staple on the Green.

Shortly after that, at 9 a.m., join Mayor Kevin Scarpati and the Meriden Veterans Honor Guard at the Meriden Green flagpole (corner of Pratt and Mill streets) for a brief flag raising ceremony and salute.

Kids, ranging in age from toddlers to teens, are invited to participate in the America 250 Kids Parade on the Green at 1 p.m. The only requirement: dress patriotically and even decorate your bicycle, scooter or stroller in celebration of our country's semi quincentennial this year! And each entrant will be given a raffle ticket for a chance to win cool prizes. Plus, there will be fun games and face painting afterward, too!

Simultaneous to the parade, the Midstate Chamber of Commerce Fall Business Showcase, which takes place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., will feature restaurants, food vendors, retail, boutiques, health and wellness, professional services, nonprofits and other community organizations.

Part of the expo will be the Eversource Efficiency Experience, an innovative exhibit, featuring guided, hands-on learning with the latest in energy efficient technologies, highlighting their benefits and savings potential.

Then, from 2 p.m.-7 p.m., the Meriden Green amphitheater is the spot to have your lawn chair set up as the Twilight Concert Series presents an eclectic collection of music, headlined by the Alpaca Gnomes and Orquesta la Yunqueña Salsa. Meriden bands Inner Groove, Los Cardonas (Dr. Miguel Cardona, Jr. and Marissa Cardona) and Cessa & the Zach will kick-off the day's musical offerings.

Celebrating 10 Years of the Meriden Green

The Meriden Green was created as a major component of the city's downtown redevelopment, transforming a once-abandoned former industrial site into a vibrant, public park. The project was designed with a unique dual purpose, through its design: to provide a welcoming green space for the community while also helping protect the downtown from serious flooding, which impacted this part of the city prior to the Green's creation.

The Green was intentionally designed to act as a functional detention basin, safely holding and storing excess stormwater during heavy rain events and reducing the risk of damage to surrounding downtown properties.

We hope you will come to experience the energy and creativity of Meriden and the surrounding region during the 10th Anniversary Meriden Green Celebration Saturday, Sept. 12, on the Meriden Green, located at 77 State Street.

The event is presented by: Restore with the Arts, Inc., City of Meriden Parks and Recreation Department, and the Midstate Chamber of Commerce.
