Animal Cruelty Case in Meriden: Rubber Band Placed on Dog's Snout Cuts Into Flesh

The dog is currently being treated for infections and will require surgery.

A case of animal cruelty was recently reported in Meriden, where someone purposely placed an elastic band over a dog’s snout, restricting the dog from opening its mouth, police said in a press release.

The Meriden Police Department’s animal control officer was sent to the area of State Street on Dec. 1. According to police, a good Samaritan restrained the dog, who had been found wandering in distress on the street as the elastic band had embedded into her flesh.

The 1-year-old Maltese/Poodle mix was malnourished, since she had not been able to eat for an extended period of time, police said.

She is being cared for at a local animal hospital for an infection and will need surgery in the future, according to the press release issued by police. Despite her injuries, police said the dog is friendly and docile.

Anyone who recognizes the dog is asked to contact Meriden Animal Control as they are actively searching for the owner.
