MERIDEN, CT — The Meriden Police Department is mourning the death of its beloved K-9 Vader.
Vader joined the department in April 2013 after successfully completing a 12-week narcotics detection program, according to police.
“Detective Sgt. Dave Visconti, his best human friend and handler, have been partners since Vader joined the agency and the two were actively involved with our Crime Suppression Unit, where then Detective Visconti was assigned,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “Together they were able to assist in countless successful narcotics investigations right up until Vader retired from police work on June 1st of 2019.

“Although retired, Vader still accompanied Detective Sergeant Visconti to work each day. It was common for him to be spotted roaming the hallways daily, stopping in to everyone’s office for a treat or a belly rub, and bringing smiles to everyone he visited.
