By the Numbers: High School Renovation Projects

Maloney and Platt may get drastic – and many say much-needed – makeovers in the next six years if the City Council approves a $228 million bonding project in June.

A look at the numbers involved in the proposed renovations for Platt and Maloney High Schools.

$109,500,000 -  of Maloney renovations (as of 5/24)

$118,200,000 - Total anticipated cost of Platt renovations (as of 5/24)

$80,456,076 -  Total cost, figuring in state reimbursement, the city estimates it will have to pay to renovate both schools. 

20 - Years the city's bond for the project would likely last

$84 - Additional cost the school project will pose to a Meriden taxpayer with a $200,000 house in 2014, according to one city projection

$265 - Highest per year cost the school project will pose to a Meriden taxpayer with a $200,000 house, according to one city projection. This would happen in 2016

$12 million - Amount of money architects shaved from May 5 figures of expected project costs for a May 24 presentation to the city's Finance Committee
