The 2022 election is heating up in Connecticut and there are plenty of races with candidates eager to serve in elected office.

Eyes are primarily focused on the gubernatorial election, but every state representative and senate seat is up for grabs. All five of Connecticut's congressional seats are up for grabs as well.

There are 151 seats in the state House of Representatives and 36 in the state Senate.

Democrat Jonathan 'Jack' Fazzino of Berlin is running for a term in the House of Representatives, 83rd House District. He is running against Republican hopeful Lou Arata of Meriden.

The House seat serves parts of Berlin, Cheshire and Meriden.

The seat is currently held by state Rep. Catherine F. Abercrombie, D-Meriden, who is not seeking another term.

Why are you seeking this office?

I was born and raised in the 83rd District.

As our community continues to face unprecedented challenges, it's time for new energy and perspectives in Hartford.

As a young person with experience in law and public policy, I am qualified to meet the needs of my home district.

Please complete this statement: The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ___, and this is what I intend to do about it.

Economic uncertainty.

As an elected official, I will continue to lower Connecticut's cost of living for middle class families and senior citizens.

I will promote investment in our small businesses by reducing small business taxes, promoting training, and encouraging entrepreneurship in our students.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

I offer a unique combination of experience and versatility.

I have clerked for a federal judge and advocated for everyday people as a lawyer.

I also already represent part of this district as an elected official.

As a 28-year-old, I offer the energy, enthusiasm and stamina of a young person who knows and loves this community. This district is my home, and I understand its unique needs.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?

I will continue to support strong public education.

I will lower the cost of living, health care and services for our seniors. I will continue to invest in infrastructure and transportation across our communities.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

Town councilor, Town of Berlin; clerk, United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?

Working hard for your community is the very best profession a person can have. I learned this from my parents.
