Crews Battle Massive 6-Alarm Blaze At Meriden Building
One person was rescued from the building after flames spread to a nearby plating factory, according to city officials.
MERIDEN, CT — Multiple fire crews worked to extinguish a six-alarm fire that ignited inside a vacant Meriden building Friday night, according to officials and reports.
Officials with the city of Meriden said the fire broke out in a vacant building located at 167 Pratt St. The fire then spread to a second building housing an "active plating factory," city officials said in a statement posted to social media.
Photos taken early from the scene show massive plumes of smoke rising from the three-story building.

One person was rescued from the building, city officials said. According to an NBC Connecticut report, the person was taken to the hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries was unknown.
Firefighters were still trying to reach hot spots around 10:30 p.m., Meriden Fire Chief Ken Morgan told the Hartford Courant, adding the fire inside the plating factory was mostly under control.

Nearly a dozen out-of-town fire departments assisted Meriden crews in battling the blaze, city officials said.
The state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection was also on scene due to hazardous materials located inside the plating factory, NBC reported.
The fire remains under investigation.
