Death Investigated As Homicide After Human Remains Found Following Fire In Meriden: PD

Police have identified the victim after human remains were found after a fire was extinguished in Meriden.

MERIDEN, CT — Police are investigating the death of a person found after a fire early Thursday morning in Meriden as a homicide.

Members of the Meriden Fire Department responded on Oct. 8 to the area of Hicks Avenue on the report of a brush fire, according to Sgt. Michael Boothroyd.

After extinguishing the fire, Boothroyd said firefighters found the remains of a deceased person who had sustained burn injuries.

Meriden police responded to the scene and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

Through the course of the investigation, Boothroyd said detectives determined that the victim, identified as 35-year-old Travis Douglas, had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Boothroyd said police are actively investigating the incident as a homicide.
