Disney Store Gets Frozen

What is the price of a DVD/Blu-Ray combo of the hottest movie of the year?  A simple trip to the mall answered the question that I didn’t ask but was somewhat surprised to learn the answer.

Early on, we were informed to be careful at the Disney Store in the West Farms Mall on Tuesday March 18th because that was the release date for Disney’s newest movie “Frozen”.    Naturally, my curiosity set in and I had to wonder why people were waiting in such a line for a movie that could be purchased elsewhere.

One customer told us she had waited in line for an hour and a half and she was one the ones to arrive early.    So what was all the fuss about?  As I asked a store employee, I came to find that those who reserved a copy of “Frozen” in advance were awarded coupons for $20 off the purchase price of the DVD/Blu-Ray combo pack.

This lead to me follow up with how much the retail price is at the Disney Store, and as I was informed it was $24.99, which means customers willing to wait in the line are getting what is potentially the hottest movie of the year for a low price of only $5.

Of all of the people waiting in line (mostly women with children), only a few of them seemingly had only the movie to purchase though, as a nearby display of “Frozen” merchandise was left empty.  If nothing else, this was a good ploy by the Disney Store to get customers in to buy additional items that were not on sale when taking part in this somewhat shocking deal.

Ultimately, this too-good-to-be-true deal taught us the real value of the DVD/Blu-Ray combo packs that retail for much more than they obviously cost to make.   Oh, by no means did I actually believe they cost a lot to make, but I thought they would at least have a value of more than five dollars, which apparently they do not.
