Driver Intentionally Struck Person On Sidewalk: Meriden Police

A man is accused of intentionally running over a person with a car outside of a bar in Meriden, according to police.

MERIDEN, CT — A man is accused of intentionally running over a person with a car last August in Meriden, according to police.

Jose Marrero, 51, was arrested Wednesday on a warrant in connection with the Aug. 12, 2021 incident.

Police responded to Scotty O’Boyles at 523 North Colony Rd. around 1 a.m. on Aug. 12 on the report of a person being run over by a car.

“As the investigation developed, it was determined that the individual that was struck by the car had been on the sidewalk and the crash was believed to be intentional,” police wrote in a news release. “As a result of the crash, the victim sustained significant injuries.”

The investigation found that Marrero was the driver of the vehicle, according to police.

Marrero was charged with first-degree assault, reckless driving and evading responsibility. He was released after posting a $150,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court, according to police.
