This two-part program begins with a presentation on Saturday, February 25, by raptor researcher Larry Fischer who will recount the remarkable comeback of the bald eagle in Connecticut with slides, digital photos, and anecdotes. Fischer, who has been banding birds since 1980, is a federally licensed raptor bander and holds a bird-banding permit with the CT DEEP. Attendees should be prepared to be outside for part of this program.
The second part of the program takes place on March 3. Retired state wildlife biologist Julie Victoria will review the status of eagles in Connecticut from 1992 to the present and detail the DEEP's program to monitor their distribution and productivity. In her more than 32 years of work for the former DEP, Victoria handled programs dealing with raptors, shorebirds, invertebrates, reptiles and amphibians.
