Fatal Christmas Crash: Victim Identified in I-691 Collision (UPDATE)

The man was reportedly ejected from the car in the crash that took place around 6:30 a.m.

MERIDEN, CT — A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Meriden on Christmas after he was ejected from a car that spun out of control on I-691, according to Connecticut State Police.

Police said, the car, which had four passengers including the driver, was going eastbound on I-691 within the left two lanes, just west of exit 5, when it spun out of control and struck the guard rail adjacent to the right shoulder. The car then crossed the travel lanes and struck the bridge abutment adjacent to the left shoulder before stopping in the left lane.

A passenger seated in the right rear of the Honda Pilot was ejected through the right rear window, police said. He died at the scene. Police identified him as Louis Gonzalez, 36, of Waterbury.

All other occupants were taken to the hospital and later released.

I-691 was closed due to the crash but reopened around 11 a.m. Any witnesses are are encouraged to contact Troop I with information regarding the case.
