Former Meriden Cop, Son of Police Chief Released from Prison

Evan Cossette was recently released to home confinement for the rest of his 14-month sentence.

Former Meriden cop Evan Cossette will be spending the remainder of his 14-month prison sentence in home confinement.

As first reported by the Record-Journal, Cossette was released to the Philadelphia Residential Reentry Management field office on Dec. 22, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

A federal jury found Cossette guilty in June 2013 of using unreasonable force and obstructing a federal investigation by preparing a false report. He was later sentenced to 14 months of imprisonment, followed by one year of supervised release.

His release date is Jan. 31, 2015. Cossette is the son of Meriden Police Chief Jeffry Cossette.

Evidence was presented at trial that showed Cossette was involved in an incident during 2010 where he shoved a handcuffed arrestee in a holding cell, causing the arrestee to hit his head against a cement cell bench, according to a press release from the United States Attorney’s Office District of Connecticut.
