Former Wilcox Tech High School Valedictorian Stefan Ankle Dies at 19
Ankle passed away after a battle with leukemia. He had the chance to interview his favorite band Alice in Chains on the radio.

Former Wilcox Technical High School valedictorian Stefan Ankle, 19, who became known for a long radio interview with his favorite band Alice in Chains died Sunday after a battle with leukemia.
Ankle passed away Sunday at Yale-New Haven Hospital, according to the Record-Journal. He was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in May.

He got to co-host a radio show on Radio 104.1 WMRQ where he interviewed members of Alice in Chains for about an hour.

“It brings me profound sadness to write this post...But our friend Stefan has lost his battle with cancer,” Radio 104.1 WMRQ wrote on its Facebook page. “Stefan, you were truly one the most brave, most engaging, and most beautiful people I’ve ever met in my life. It was an honor to share a mic and a friendship with you,”
Ankle was a member of the soccer team, president of the National Honor Society and a member of the GUS Robotics team.
Members of the GUS Robotics brought a life-sized cardboard poster of Ankle to their weekend competition. They won an award for engineering inspiration.
“It is with heavy hearts this morning that I say , last night right after we won our big award our Stefan Ankle passed,” GUS Robotics posted on Facebook. “We are all thankful for the chance to have known him.”
