March 4, 2014, marked the 40th anniversary of the Franciscan Life Center. Founded in 1974 by Mother Shaun Vergauwen, F.S.E., Mother General of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist, the Franciscan Life Center has been a place where hope comes to life.

Mother Shaun Vergauwen, F.S.E., is pictured above with Mother Rosemae Pender, F.S.E., the Foundresses of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist. Soon after arriving in Meriden, Connecticut, the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist opened the doors of the Franciscan Life Center on March 4, 1974, with just two clients in a rented house on West Main Street. Now, 40 years later the Franciscan Life Center is located on a beautiful rural campus in Meriden, Connecticut. Throughout these 40 years, thousands of individuals have come to participate in programs based in the belief in every person’s potential for growth and development.
Mother Shaun was elected Mother General of the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist in July, 2005. At that time Sister Barbara Johnson, F.S.E., became the new Executive Director and Sister Mary Elizabeth Endee, F.S.E., became the Director.
