Gun Owner Arrested After Reporting It Missing: Meriden Police

A man was arrested after police said he failed to properly store his gun that went missing.

MERIDEN, CT — A man was arrested Wednesday after police said he failed to properly store his gun that went missing.

The gun owner, identified as Gerardo Moran, reported to police on Feb. 15 that the gun was missing. He said he left it in the dresser of his unlocked bedroom as he was going out on the night of Feb. 9, according to police.

Moran told police that he was in a rush and didn’t place the gun in a safe, according to police.

Police said Moran delayed reporting the gun as missing because he had lost it in the past, but said he was able to find it after a few days.

Police also learned that Moran lives in a home with two minors. Moran was told he was in violation of the proper storage of a firearm and to expect a warrant for his arrest, according to police.

Moran turned himself in on Feb. 21 and was charged with responsibilities re storage of firearms, according to police. He was released on a promise to appear in court.
