Las Posadas - An Advent Celebration

On December 6, 2018, Our Lady Queen of Angels Parish will retrace the steps of Mary and Joseph in Bethlehem as they are refused lodging while looking for a place for the Birth of Jesus.The candlelit journey will begin at 6 pm the St. Mary’s Campus, 5 Sherman Place, Meriden. The group will then travel to St. Joseph’s Campus, 22 Goodwill Ave, Meriden and then walk to the final destination, Mt Carmel Campus, 109 Goodwill Ave, Meriden. At each stop Mary and Joseph will denied “room in the inn”. Students from Mt Carmel Elementary School will represent Mary and Joseph and Christmas songs will be sung as the entourage progresses from stop to stop. There will be Christmas Music and light refreshments at the last stop.

The Christmas Posada is a tradition in Mexico. expresses perfectly the suspense & surprises of the season. The word “posada” means “inn” or “shelter” in Spanish. The inn, of course, is the shelter that Mary and Joseph seek as the Virgin prepares to give birth. It is a prayer, a play and a gathering for families & whole communities.
