MERIDEN, CT — The Maloney boys volleyball team’s quest for a second straight championship came to an end with a 3-0 loss to second-seeded New Canaan in the CIAC Class M final Friday night at Newtown.

The top-seeded Spartans lost by scores of 25-21, 25-11, and 25-22.

Maloney, which went 19-0 during the regular season, advanced to the championship game with a 3-0 quarterfinal win over No. 8 Conard and a 3-0 victory over No. 4 Hall in the semifinals.

It was the first state championship for New Canaan.
