Maloney Students Sign Petition to Allow Boy to Wear Dress at Prom

The petition, which will be delivered to the Meriden Board of Education, is on Change.org.

MERIDEN, CT - A group of Francis T. Maloney High School students in Meriden is supporting a fellow male student who wants to wear a dress to senior prom.

Students have posted a petition on Change.org that they will present to the Board of Education, and as of Wednesday afternoon, May 4, contained 265 signatures.

"A male senior in a Meriden Public School was told he was not allowed to wear a dress to prom," the petition states. "That completely takes away his right to express himself in a way that makes him comfortable. Also, girls are allowed to wear suits so why the double standard? Please sign if you agree!"

The Meriden Record-Journal reports that the petition was started by junior Jovanna Lynn, who told the publication that she believes everyone should be able to express themselves how they choose.
