Registered Sex Offender Accused Of Sexually Assaulting 11-Year-Old Child: Meriden Police

MERIDEN, CT — A man is accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old child in Meriden, according to police.

The Meriden Police Department’s Special Crimes Unit (SCU) began an investigation in January into accusations that 48-year-old Alexis Maldonado sexually assaulted an 11-year-old child, according to police.

Police said Maldonado, a registered sex offender, was prohibited from having contact with children at the time of the incident.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Maldonado following a thorough investigation, according to police.

Maldonado was charged with fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a child. He was being held in lieu of a $300,000 bond at the New Haven Correctional Center, according to police.

“The Meriden Police Department is wholeheartedly committed to protecting children,” police wrote in a news release. “We understand the impact of these crimes and we work with partner agencies to help provide services to the affected victims and families. It is the policy of the Meriden Police Department to fully investigate every allegation of crimes against children that is brought to our organization.”
