Man Accused Of Sexually Assaulting 13-Year-Old: Meriden Police

MERIDEN, CT — A man is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old in Meriden, according to police.

The Meriden Police Department Special Crimes Unit began investigating the incident in June, according to officials.

Police said an arrest warrant was issued for 26-year-old Jean Cartagena after a “thorough investigation.”

Cartagena was arrested Nov. 9 and charged with second-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and two counts of risk of injury to a minor. He was held in lieu of a $250,000 bond.

“We at the Meriden Police Department are wholeheartedly committed to protecting children,” police wrote in a news release. “We understand the impact of these crimes and we work with partner agencies to help provide services to the affected victims and their families. It is the policy of the Meriden Police Department to fully investigate every allegation of crimes against children that are brought to our organization.”
