Man Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Minor: Meriden Police

The man was arrested on a warrant after being extradited back to Connecticut from Florida, according to police.

MERIDEN, CT — A man accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old in Meriden was arrested this week after being extradited from Florida, according to police.

The Meriden Police Department Special Crimes Unit began investigating in May a complaint of a sexual assault of a 13-year-old, according to officials.

Police said an arrest warrant was issued for 34-year-old Gabriel Arroyo after a “thorough investigation.”

Gabriel was arrested Nov. 9 and charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault and three counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Police said Gabriel was found in Florida and extradited back to Connecticut by Meriden detectives and presented to the Meriden Superior court.

Arroyo was released from court custody after posting the court-set bond of $100,000, according to police.

“The Meriden Police Department would like to acknowledge the Judicial District of New Haven Court for their assistance in helping our organization extradite Gabriel back from Florida,” police wrote in a news release. “We at the Meriden Police Department are wholeheartedly committed to protecting children. When investigations are commenced actions are taken to safeguard the victim while exhaustive investigative protocols are followed.

“We understand the impact of these crimes and we work with partner agencies to help provide services to the affected victims and their families. It is the policy of the Meriden Police Department to fully investigate every allegation of crimes against children that are brought to our organization.”
