Man Arrested In Connection With Shooting In Meriden: Police

Police said the man, who was wanted on a warrant, was found to be in the possession of a loaded gun, ammunition, and suspected heroin.

MERIDEN, CT — A man who was wanted in connection with a shooting in Meriden earlier this month was arrested Monday at a motel in Berlin, according to police.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Luis Delgado in connection with a shooting on Sept. 3 that was determined to be a domestic violence incident, according to officials. Police said they have been actively trying to take Delgado into custody since the warrant was issued.

Police received information on Sunday and Monday that Delgado was staying at the Rosebud Motel in Berlin. He was seen in the parking lot around 11:30 a.m. on Monday and taken into custody without incident, police said.

Delgado was found to be in the possession of a loaded Polymer80 handgun with a high-capacity magazine loaded with 19 rounds of ammunition, according to police. He was also found with 3.48 grams of suspected heroin in his pocket, police said.

Police said a backpack Delgado was carrying also contained the following: one high-capacity magazine loaded with 32 rounds of ammunition, one high-capacity magazine loaded with 17 rounds of ammunition, a coin purse containing 56 rounds of ammunition and 11 loose rounds of ammunition.

Delgado was arrested on the warrant on charges of first-degree assault, third-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm and violation of a protective order. He was held in lieu of a $1 million bond on those charges.

Delgado was additionally charged with possession of narcotics, criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, violation of a protective order, possession of a high-capacity magazine, and illegal alteration of a firearm/no serial number. He was being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond on those charges, according to police.
