Man Assaulted, Threatened Neighbor: Meriden Police
A man was arrested after an incident that led to a reverse 911 message and a temporary road closure, according to police.
MERIDEN, CT — A man is accused of assaulting his neighbor with a metal pipe in an incident that led to a reverse 911 message and a temporary road closure Friday afternoon in Meriden, according to police.
Police responded to a multi-family home on Pleasant Street around 3:10 p.m. on the report of a resident threatening a neighbor with a knife.
When officers arrived, police said it was reported that the incident occurred in a common hallway and that the suspect also had hit the victim with a metal pipe, causing a minor injury. The suspect then went into his own apartment on the first floor, according to police.

“Officers were made aware that the suspect owned firearms,” police wrote in a news release. “With the suspect’s intent and mental state unknown, and out of caution, a reverse 911 message was sent to area citizens within a small radius of the home. A perimeter was formed, and Pleasant Street was closed to thru traffic.
“At the same time, Police Negotiators spoke with the suspect over the phone, eventually leading to the peaceful resolution of the incident, where he was taken into custody without force, provided medical treatment, and charged for the incident.”

Angelo Maggio, 61, was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree threatening, and second-degree breach of peace. He was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond with a court date of Dec. 1.
“The Meriden Police would like to thank all of our community citizens who were notified of this incident via the 911 reverse notification for their cooperation,” police wrote. “Although this was implemented, at no time did we feel that anyone was in immediate danger: however, we will never fail to take the appropriate steps to ensure that the safety of our citizens is our first priority.”
