Man Charged In Drive-By Shooting In Meriden: Police

The man was accused of firing shots in the direction of a woman and several young children who were leaving a home, according to police.

MERIDEN, CT — A man has been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting in Meriden in 2019, according to police.

Police said the shooting happened on James Street in September 2019. An occupant of a vehicle fired a gun in the direction of a woman and several young children leaving a home, according to police.

Malik Ellshabazz Ransom was identified as a suspect and an arrest warrant was obtained, but police were unable to find him, officials said.

Police in New York recently conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle that Ransom was traveling in, according to police. Ransom gave a fake name to officers, but New York officers were able to positively identify him, Meriden police said.

Ransom was arrested and extradited back to Connecticut.

“We would like to thank our law enforcement partners for their assistance with this investigation, specifically the New York Police Department and members of the CT Probation Unit,” police wrote in a news release.

Ransom, 33, was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm, first-degree reckless endangerment and three counts of risk of injury to a minor. He was held in lieu of a $500,000 bond.
