Man Charged With Sexual Assault: Meriden Police

The man was arrested following a "thorough and detailed investigation" that was "further supported by DNA evidence," police said.

MERIDEN, CT — A man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault case last March in Meriden, according to police.

The Meriden Police Department Special Crimes Unit began investigating in March 2022, and police said Rafael Castro was arrested on a warrant following a “thorough and detailed investigation” that was “further supported by DNA evidence.”

Castro, 24, was charged Oct. 18 with first-degree sexual assault. He was held in lieu of a $100,000 bond with a court date of Nov. 8, according to state judicial records.

Police said Castro was incarcerated on unrelated charges when the arrest warrant was served.

“We at the Meriden Police Department are wholeheartedly committed to protecting victims of sexual assaults,” police wrote in a news release. “We understand the impact of these crimes and we work with partner agencies to help provide services to the affected victims and their families. It is the policy of the Meriden Police Department to fully investigate every allegation of crimes against victims that our organization is made aware of.”
