Man Charged In Theft Of City Van: Meriden Police

The van was stolen out of a city parking lot, according to police.

MERIDEN, CT — A man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a city vehicle in August 2021, according to police.

Connecticut State Police attempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop on Aug. 14, 2021, of a van that was registered to the city of Meriden.

State police reported it to the City, where employees of the city garage responded to 55 Michael Drive where the vehicle was last known to be parked for maintenance, according to Meriden Police.

The vehicle was then determined to have been stolen from the city lot, police said.

The van was recovered on Aug. 16, 2021 and processed by the Evidence ID Unit. Investigators used evidence found in the van, along with interviews, to identify Tucker Thorpe as the suspect, according to police.

Police said Thorpe, 41, who was incarcerated on various other charges, was arrested Feb. 15 on a warrant and charged with third-degree burglary and second-degree larceny. He was held in lieu of a $10,000 bond.
