Man, 24, Identified As Victim Shot, Killed In Meriden: UPDATE

Police are investigating the incident which occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday.

MERIDEN, CT — Police are investigating after a man was found shot and killed in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn on East Main Street early Sunday, police said.

The victim has been identified as Giovanni Rodriguez, 24, of Meriden, police said. He was shot once to chest and was declared dead at the scene, police said.

Police were called to the scene just before 2 a.m. A woman called police informing them of the shooting.

On arrival, officers found a man laying in the entrance way of the Comfort Inn, police said. Police said despite all efforts from responders, the male victim was pronounced on scene.

The family has been notified and police said, "Our condolences go out to the family during this difficult time."

"As a result of our preliminary investigation, Officers were able to secure witnesses and video footage of the area," police said. "We are actively following those leads."
