UPDATE: Police Search for Driver of Stolen Car in Which Man was Killed in Meriden
The crash occurred early Friday morning on Maple Avenue.

MERIDEN, CT — More details are emerging concerning Friday morning's fatal crash on Maple Avenue in Meriden, namely that the car was stolen and the passenger was killed when it struck a tree, according to police.
Authorities are searching for the driver of the stolen car, but his identity is currently unknown, reports the Meriden Record-Journal. The identity of the passenger has not been released.
A K-9 unit searched for the missing driver Friday morning, but as of 4 p.m. the driver still has not been located, WFSB 3 TV reports. No information has been released concerning the name of the passenger who died.

Original story: MERIDEN, CT — A man reportedly was killed in an early morning crash on Maple Avenue in Meriden, and police are searching for a "person of interest" in connection with the incident.

Details of the 2:40 a.m. crash were not immediately available, but the Meriden Record-Journal writes that the car slammed into a tree in the 200 block on Maple Avenue.
Police have not disclosed the identity of the person who was killed, or whether he was a driver or passenger. They additionally have not disclosed what connection the person of interest has in relation to the crash.
