Man Sentenced in Drunken Crash that Claimed the Leg of Meriden Man
The crash on Board Street in Meriden occurred in February of last year.

MERIDEN, CT — New Britain resident Danny Perez, 32, was sentenced to 18 months in prison Tuesday in connection with a drunken car crash almost a year ago that severed the leg of Meriden resident Benjamin Ariza, reports the Meriden Record-Journal.
Perez pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and second-degree assault with a motor vehicle under the Alford Doctrine, which means he did not agree with the charges but believed there was a chance of conviction.
The full sentence was five years in prison, suspended after 18 months, followed by three years probation and a fine of $800. The crash occurred late on the night of Feb. 5, 2016, on Broad Street in Meriden. Perez's vehicle struck Ariza, who was standing outside of another vehicle waiting to cross the street.
