Man Tried To Break Into Homes After Fleeing Crash: Meriden Police

Police received multiple 911 calls reporting that a man was kicking and banging on doors, and was trying to break into homes, officials said

MERIDEN, CT — A Waterbury man is accused of trying to break into several homes in Meriden after running away from the scene of a crash on Thursday, according to police.

Police responded to a home on Fols Avenue on the report of a man “actively kicking” and trying to get into the residence. Another 911 call said that the man had forcefully entered the home and that the homeowner needed help, according to police.

Before officers arrived, police said another 911 call from another Fols Avenue resident reported an unknown man was now banging at their door trying to get into a second residence, according to a news release.

Officers arrived at the scene shortly after the second 911 call and a man matching the suspect’s description was found, according to police. After a brief foot chase, the suspect was taken into custody without further injury or incident, police said.

“Upon continuing to investigate this call, officers learned that Connecticut State Police had been investigating a motor vehicle accident where the operator had fled the scene on foot on (Route) 15 South,” police wrote in the news release. “It is believed that the operator, and registered owner of the vehicle, then flood on foot to the Fols Avenue neighborhood and while appearing to be under the influence of an unknown substance, then began to knock, kick, and attempt to make entry into the homes of multiple Fols Avenue residents.”
