Marilyn Benziger Sobol, 74, Formerly of Meriden, Passed Away on March 30

Marilyn Benziger Sobol, 74, of Cromwell, formerly of Meriden, died peacefully, Monday, March 30, 2015 at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was the loving wife and best friend of Robert W. Sobol.
Marilyn was born in Meriden, November 14, 1940, a daughter of the late Fredrick Benziger and Eleanor Caruso Benziger. Marilyn was the owner of the Marilyn B. Mason School of Dance in Yalesville for 12 years and was later employed by the State of Connecticut for 20 years until her retirement. Marilyn will be remembered for her intense love of life, her compassion and kindness, and her vivacious love of laughter. Marilyn had a deep love of family and friends, a tremendous fashion sense, and greatly enjoyed dancing. She was an amazing woman with a quick wit who was full of charm. She will be deeply missed by all who had the distinct honor of knowing her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter Karen Hamelin of PA, the wife of the late Genest Hamelin Jr. of Meriden. She is also survived by her stepdaughter Tammy DiMattia and her husband Quintino of Meriden; her grandchildren Marisa O’Brien and husband John, Melaina Hamelin and her husband Angel Rosado, Michael DiMattia, and Jason DiMattia; her great-grandchildren Noah Hamelin, Elias Rosado, Jack and Cassidy O’Brien; her brother Fredrick Benziger and wife Alice of FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext., Sunday, April 5, 2015 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, from The Wallingford Funeral Home at 10 a.m. when the funeral cortege will proceed to Most Holy Trinity Church, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery in Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Marilyn may be sent to Middlesex Hospital Weiss Hospice Unit, 28 Crescent Street, Middletown, CT. 06457
