Mass Layoffs Hit Bridgeport Transit Employer

Greater Bridgeport Transit Access has canceled its contract with Transdev, which will result in 34 people losing their jobs.

BRIDGEPORT, CT — Greater Bridgeport Transit Access has canceled its contract with Transdev, which result in layoffs, according to a notice filed with the state Department of Labor. The layoffs will take effect Dec. 31.

Thirty-four employees at Transdev's 1 Cross St. location will be affected by the move.

The terminations are expected to be permanent, according to documentation filed with the state.

All of Transdev's routes in Bridgeport will be permanently shut down when the company's contract with the city expires.

The layoffs affect a range of positions, including 24 paratransit operators, 2 dispatchers, 2 reservationists, and several others.

"The circumstances leading to this lay off were unforeseeable and unanticipated by Transdev," the notice reads.
