Meriden Businessman's Limo Service Screeches to Halt in Face of State Law

He has the right vehicles, insurance and a clean record, but under state law has to prove there is a public need for his livery service.

A Meriden businessman is attempting to start a limo service, but ran into problems with state law.

Under state law Steven Martorelli has to prove that there is a public need for his service, according to WFSB.

He sued and argued that his prices would be lower and would therefore be a service to the public. The case made its way to the state Supreme Court last month.

A DOT hearing officer found that Martorelli had a clean record, the right vehicles insurance and everything else needed to start a limo business, except he didn’t show a need for more cars.
