Meriden City Manager Charged With DUI In Wrong-Way Crash: Reports
The city manager was arrested after a wrong-way crash early Wednesday morning in Wethersfield, according to multiple reports.
MERIDEN, CT — Meriden City Manager Timothy Coon is taking a leave of absence after being charged with DUI in connection with a wrong-way crash early Wednesday morning in Wethersfield, according to multiple reports, including the Record-Journal.
The Record-Journal reports Coon was arrested after state police said he was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 3around 1:50 a.m. Wednesday, and crashed when trying to enter the off-ramp onto Route 2.
Coon apologized for his actions in a statement, and said he doesn’t plan to resign and that the City Council hasn’t asked him to resign, according to FOX 61.

FOX 61 reports Fire Chief Ken Morgan will serve as Acting City Manager while Coon takes the mutually agreed on leave of absence.
In a joint statement, via NBC Connecticut, Meriden Mayor Kevin Scarpati, City Council Leadership and the city’s legal department said in part that the council is “taking this time to gather pertinent information to address this matter during the next scheduled Council meeting, next Monday, May 1.”
