Meriden Company Cuts More Than 100 Workers

A freight company is facing layoffs following filing for bankruptcy.

MERIDEN, CT - New England Motor Freight has let 122 workers go since Feb. 15, according to a filing with the state Department of Labor. The layoffs have affected members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, AFL-CIO branch based in Brooklyn.

The Times Herald-Record of Middletown, N.Y. reported that NEMF recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will layoff more than 500 staff members. Other workers being affected are at the company's seven sites in New York state.

NEMF was founded in 1977 and specializes in transporting small loads under 150 lbs. each.
