Meriden Coronavirus Update: 1st Resident Dies

The city has recorded its first death due to coronavirus.

MERIDEN, CT — A resident in their 40s has died of coronavirus in Meriden, according to city officials. The death on Monday marks the first in the city from the COVID-19 virus.

The victim had recently tested positive for the virus. It is unknown how they contracted the illness.

"We extend our deepest sympathies to the loved ones during this time of loss," Mayor Kevin Scarpati said in a statement. "As COVID-19 continues to spread in Meriden, we must all do what we can to keep each other safe. My heart is with the family, friends, and neighbors who are grieving. This loss is deeply felt by our entire community. Now more than ever, each of us must do our part to prevent the spread of this virus in Meriden."
