Meriden Council Overrides Mayor's Veto Of Police Review Board

The council voted to override the mayor's veto of a measure that would establish a citizen's police review board.

MERIDEN, CT — The City Council voted to establish a police Civilian Review Board at a Wednesday night meeting, The Meriden Record-Journal reported. The vote overrides Mayor Kevin Scarpati's veto of the measure.

The council voted 8-4 in favor of the proposal. Measures require a two-thirds majority to override the mayor's veto.

Councilors supporting the proposal said that it will bring greater accountability to the police use-of-force investigation process.
