Meriden Court Loses Positions in State Layoffs

MERIDEN, CT - Three members of the Meriden court were laid off recently as part of Connecticut's massive round of layoffs to help close the $1 billion state budget deficit.

Two judicial marshals and an adult probation officer were laid off from the Meriden court, reports the New Haven Register.

Additionally, the Derby court also lost three adult probation officers, and in New Haven that court lost 15 judicial marshals and four juvenile probation officers. The Meriden and New Haven courts make up the New Haven Judicial District, which serves Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Meriden, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Wallingford, and Woodbridge.

The Derby court is part of the Ansonia-Milford Judicial District, which serves Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Derby, Milford, Orange, Oxford, Seymour, Shelton, West Haven.

In total, 113 employees from the state's judicial branch have been laid off, but state officials warn that there is a slight possibility that there could be additional layoffs from that sector in the future.
