Meriden Election Results 2018: Local Winners Declared

The winners of two state House districts and a state Senate district were declared Tuesday night.

MERIDEN, CT - In the 13th Senatorial District Mary Abrams, Democratic Party, has defeated incumbent Len Suzio, Republican Party. Abrams had 19,502 votes to Suzio's 17,708.

In the 82nd House District incumbent Emil Altobello, Democratic Party, declared victory over Ernestine Holloway, Republican Party. Altobello had 5401 votes to Holloway's 3699.

In the 83rd House District Catherine Abercrombie, Democratic Party, defeated Lou Arata, Republican Party. Abercrombie had 4765 votes to Arata's 4450.

MERIDEN, CT — Voters have cast their votes in Connecticut's statewide election. Governor, Lt. governor, state treasurer, state comptroller, attorney general and secretary of the state are all up for grabs. Several local state senate, state house of representative and judge of probate races will also be decided.

Locally, in Meriden the choices for the 13th Senatorial District are: Mary Abrams, Democratic Party, and Len Suzio, Republican Party. Suzio is the incumbent.

Suzio is founder and President of GeoDataVision, a bank consulting company specializing in the federal banking regulations. He previously worked as the Director, Executive Vice President, and Senior Loan Officer for American National Bank in Hamden. Suzio served on the Meriden Board of Education for 14 years, according to his website. Suzio and his wife Kathryn have five children and five grandchildren.

Abrams is an educator, wife, mother and grandmother who has lived most of her life in Meriden. She taught Special Education as a classroom teacher for 25 years. She then transitioned into administration and served over 10 years as a Director of Special Education and a High School Assistant Principal, according to her website. This is her first political run.

Meriden residents will also vote on these state representative races: 82nd House District Emil Altobello, Democratic Party, versus Ernestine Holloway, Republican Party. Altobello is the incumbent.

Holloway has served as an outreach pastor for 27 years. She has also been the director of Serenity House Elkanah Ministry and served victims of abuse, according to her website.

Altobello is serving his twelfth term in the House where he has been the assistant deputy speaker since 2013. He previously served on the Meriden City Council, according to his bio.

83rd House District: Catherine Abercrombie, Democratic Party, versus Lou Arata, Republican Party. Abercrombie is the incumbent.

Abercrombie is serving her twelfth term in the district, which serves Meriden, Berlin and Kensington. She has been a strong supporter and advocate of social service programs, children and family welfare, services for the disabled and educational issues, according to her biography.

Arata is a member of the Meriden Republican Town Committee and a graduate of Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration. The majority of his career has been focused on excelling as an award-winning salesman to-the-trade for a home furnishing textile company, according to his website.

84th House District: Hilda Santiago, Democratic Party, is the incumbent and running unopposed.

For the Judge of Probate race, Ariana Ceneviva is running unopposed on both the Republican and Democratic tickets.

All eyes are on the Governor’s race where the choices are: Ned Lamont, Democrat, Bob Stefanowski, Republican, Rodney Hanscomb, Libertarian, Mark Stewart Greenstein, Amigo Constitution Liberty Party, and Oz Griebel, Griebel Frank for CT Party.

The candidates for lieutenant governor are: Susan Bysiewicz, Democrat, Joe Markley, Republican, Jeffrey Thibeault, Libertarian Party, John Demitrus, Amigo Constitution Liberty Party, and Monte E Frank, Griebel Frank for CT Party.

The choices for the U.S. Senate race are: Matthew Corey, Republican Party, Christopher S. Murphy, Democratic Party, Richard Lion, Libertarian Party, and Jeff Russell, Green Party.

For the U.S. House of Representatives race the choices in the 5th District are: Jahana Hayes, Democratic Party, and Manny Santos, Republican Party.

In the Secretary of State race the choices are: Denise W Merrill, Democratic Party, Susan Chapman, Republican Party, Heather Lynn Sylvestre Gwynn, Libertarian Party, and Michael DeRosa, Green Party.

In the race for State Treasurer the choices are: Shawn Wooden, Democratic Party, Thad Gray, Republican Party, and Jesse Brohinsky, Libertarian Party.

For the position of State Comptroller the choices are: Kurt Miller, Republican Party, Kevin Lembo, Democratic Party, Paul Passarelli, Libertarian Party, and Edward G Heflin, Green Party.

For the position of Attorney General the choices are: William Tong, Democratic Party, Sue Hatfield, Republican Party, Peter D. Goselin, Green Party.

Connecticut offers Election Day registration, but those who arrive need to be registered by 8 p.m. in order to vote. Unlike previously registered voters standing in line before 8 p.m. to register won’t guarantee the ability to vote.

Absentee ballots are also available for those who won’t be in town all of election day or for a multitude of other reasons.
