Meriden Father Receives Reprieve From Deportation
The man took sanctuary in a church for more than three months to avoid being deported.

MERIDEN, CT — After taking sanctuary in a New Haven church for more than three months, a Meriden father of three will be home for Thanksgiving, according to multiple reports. NBC Connecticut reports Marco Reyes, who took refuge in the First and Summerfield United Methodist Church on the day he was set to be deported to Ecuador, has received a temporary reprieve from deportation.
Reyes has lived in the United States for 20 years and reported to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in July as scheduled and was told he would needed to return to Ecuador by Aug. 8, according to NBC.

Reyes’ attorney told the Hartford Courant that she has filed a motion to reopen his case with the Board of Immigration Appeals, along with a petition for review, and the Department of Homeland Security has agreed that they will not arrest, detain or deport him while the petitions are pending.
