Meriden Man Charged With Gun Crimes Following Large Fight: Police

A man was charged after police stopped his car, which was fleeing a large fight.

MERIDEN, CT — A man was charged with gun crimes after police responded to a complaint of a large fight on Cherry Street Monday night. Police received the call at 10:09 p.m. and arrived to find "numerous people extending down the entirety of the roadway," according to a statement.

Police stopped a car fleeing the scene and found the car's owner in possession of two handguns, a facsimile firearm, drugs, and numerous ammunition rounds.

John Alvarez was charged with possession of narcotics, two counts of criminal possession of a firearm, two counts of carrying a pistol without a permit, three counts of weapon in a motor vehicle, three counts of violation of a protective order, and second-degree breach of peace.

He was held on $250,000 bond.
