Update: Meriden Man Killed in Middletown Car Accident

A 20-year-old Platt High School graduate from Meriden died after a pickup truck and the compact car he was riding in collided on Route 17 in Middletown early Sunday morning.

Three tiny candles and a vase of pink and white orchids sit on the grass near the intersection of Highland Avenue and Route 17 in Middletown Sunday, a tiny memorial to the 20-year-old victim of a two-car collision early this morning.

Alexander Martinez, 20, a 2009 Platt High School Graduate from Meriden, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2002 Honda Civic he was riding in and a 2008 Ford F350 pickup truck collided at the intersection of at Route 17 (South Main Street) and Highland Avenue in Middletown at about 2:25 a.m. Sunday, according to Middletown Police. Martinez was reportedly ejected from the car.

The driver of the Honda Civic, Jedidiah Roesler, 22, of Meriden, and the car's two other passengers were sent to Hartford Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, as was the driver of the pickup truck, Stephen Tyrseck, 36, of Durham.

Middletown police are investigating the accident, but say that the cars collided when the Civic, heading north on Route 17, attempted to turn left onto Highland Ave., while the pickup truck was driving south on Route 17. NBC has a photo of the scene following the accident HERE.

In the few hours since police released Martinez's name Facebook friends and Twitter followers have been loading up his pages with messages.

"@Alexyeahhhh ill never forget seeing you er'day at the skatepark,always put a smile on my face rest in peace. Youll always be in our hearts," tweeted Courtney Milliken.
