Meriden Man Sentenced For Carjacking, Shooting: Officials
The man was charged in connection with a carjacking in which a woman was robbed at gunpoint, and an unrelated shooting at a gas station.
MERIDEN, CT — A Meriden man was sentenced Monday to six years in prison in connection with a carjacking and a shooting that happened in Meriden in October 2020, New Haven State’s Attorney John P. Doyle Jr. announced.
Josaun Munoz, 37, pleaded guilty in July to charges in connection with the carjacking and shooting, which both happened on Oct. 3, 2020, but were unrelated, according to officials.
Doyle said the sentence was the result of a plea agreement with the total sentence imposed of 15 years, execution suspended after six years to serve, followed by four years of probation. The court noted that five of the six years that Munoz was ordered to serve are mandatory, according to Doyle.

Munoz pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree robbery for the carjacking and attempted first-degree assault for the shooting.
An investigation by Meriden police found that Munoz and several co-defendants robbed the victim of her vehicle at gunpoint, according to Doyle. The victim was struck in the head several times during the robbery.

Meriden police also found that Munoz was involved in the exchange of gunfire between two groups of people in the parking lot of a Meriden gas station, according to a news release.
“The police were able to recover video footage establishing that the defendant and another person fired a weapon at an individual,” officials wrote in the news release.
