Meriden Mosque Shooter Looks to Avoid Jail Time

Ted Hakey Jr. is scheduled to be sentenced Friday in connection with his shooting at a mosque last fall.

Meriden, CT - When Ted Hakey Jr. goes before a federal judge Friday at his sentencing, the Meriden resident who shot multiple times at the next door Baitul Aman Mosque in November 2015 will have a potentially powerful ally by his side as he seeks to avoid jail time.

They, and his attorney, will ask Judge Michael Shea to spare Hakey Jr. jail time, in part because he has worked hard for forgiveness from the congregation, reports the Hartford Courant. No one was injured in the shooting, but bullets damaged the walls.

Hakey Jr. faces a possible sentence of 8 to 14 months in prison, but his attorney hopes the judge takes into account his clients outreach efforts to the mosque, and the congregation's appreciation of those gestures.
