Meriden Mosquitoes Test Positive For West Nile Virus

The state recently informed the city that two mosquitoes were infected with the virus.

MERIDEN, CT - Two mosquitoes were recently found to have been infected with the West Nile Virus, the Meriden Record-Journal reported. The state's Mosquito Management Program notified city officials about the infected mosquitoes found in Meriden.

City officials urged people to take precaution by minimizing time outdoors between dusk and dawn. Also, eliminating any standing water around residences is also highly recommended.

Those who contract West Nile virus may not experience any symptoms. About one in five people develop a fever and other symptoms, and the virus can be fatal, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
