Meriden Is Not a 'Sanctuary City,' Official Says: Report
Meriden's leaders have not filed for status as a sanctuary city, according to City Manager Guy Scaife.

MERIDEN, CT — With stories of "sanctuary cities" swirling in the news, Meriden's City Manager Guy Scaife wants to set the record straight that Meriden is not one, reports the Meriden Record-Journal.
Meriden's leaders have not filed for status as a sanctuary city, Scaife told the publication, though the city has been listed on websites as one. Local police and others treat immigrants the same as other people, according to officials.
New Haven and Hartford are often labeled as sanctuary cities because their police departments don’t ask people about immigration status and don’t detain people for federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials, according to WNPR.
