Meriden Officer, K-9 Involved in Collision

The officer had several injuries and the K-9 was sent to the vet after their cruiser was hit by another vehicle.

The operator of a BMW ran a red light and smashed into a Meriden Police cruiser Wednesday morning, according to police.

The accident happened shortly before 9:43 a.m., said Lt. Thomas Cossette, commander of the accident reconstruction team. Responding officers arrived and found a BMW and a cruiser in snow banks near the intersection of Lewis Avenue and the exit ramp of Route 691 westbound exit 6.

The operator/owner of the BMW, Goin Fabiola, was exciting Route 691 and attempting to enter Midstate Hospital’s entrance. Separate witnesses at the scene said she ran through a red light and crashed into the cruiser, Cossette said.

Fabiola was transported to the nearby hospital for minor injuries. K-9 Officer Jason Degumbia, who was operating the cruiser was also sent to the hospital with a broken wrist, possible broken elbow and neck and back pain.

K-9 Kilo was transported to a veterinarian to be checked for injuries. Kilo was treated and released.

Fabiola was issued an infraction for failure to obey a control signal.
